Dear Friends,

It may be appreciated that all the CSR activities carried out by MECL has been completed within the prescribed time frame for the financial year 2014- 15. Team MECL, has been able to meet all the parameters as per the MoU Signed with the Ministry of Mines and this was possible under the leadership of our CMD, Dr. Gopal Dhawan. Our Head of Departments, Zonal Managers Project Managers and CSR team have taken lot of efforts to complete these activities within stipulated time frame and to maintain the quality of work without reducing the productivity in their core job. These activities contributed towards the economic development of the society at large and towards improving the quality of life of internal as well as external stakeholders.

It is pleasure to share with all of you that this year we are winner of "Silver Award" for outstanding Achievement in Corporate Social Responsibility by Greentech Foundation under "The 4th Annual Greentech CSR Award-2015". This prestigious award has been received by MECL on 29th January, 2015.

MECL has bagged this award for conducting CSR activities like constructing bore well for drinking water, conducting health check camps, constructing toilets for students in govt. schools, providing educational and vocational training to the weaker sections of the society, providing sewing machine & vocational training for women in villages. These activities were conducted in and around the MECL projects in the states of Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Rajasthan.

One more feather in MECL’s cap is we have accomplished target of Construction of Toilets under Prime Minister’s pet project Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The provision of toilets for boys and girls has mitigated the sanitation issues and ameliorate the living conditions of the students specially girls in the primary and secondary schools. We have completed construction of 27 no. of toilets as committed under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. This has brought a sea change in the lives of the people who have now access to sanitary.
In state of Madhya Pradesh, MECL has committed 4 toilets in 2 schools of Singrauli District and in state of Telangana, 23 toilets were committed in 12 schools of Khammam District. All the 27 toilets have been completed and handed over to respective school authorities. Dr. Gopal Dhawan, CMD MECL and Shri M.S.N. Murty have inaugurated the toilets in schools of Khammam District of Telangana State.

Construction work has been completed in a time bound manner, i.e. on 27th March 2015 due to which MECL has become one of the first few organizations to achieve its targets in time i.e.by March 2015.
Our efforts have brought light in the lives of the under-privileged children who have now access to books, stationery, and other paraphernalia which they have been deprived of since long, owing to backwardness of rural areas, inaccessibility and unaffordability of reading and writing material. Besides the girl students have been facing hardships for commuting to their schools which is largely solved by distribution of cycles to girl students.

Distribution of Medical instruments to the Hospitals will aid in providing better medical care to the patients. The critical treatments could not be performed owing to unaffordability of latest machinery and instruments which are critical in performing the treatment of acute and fatal diseases.

One of the biggest challenges faced by the people in remote areas is access to drinking water. The huge cost of installation or setting of hand-pumps and tube-wells left the people in remote areas helpless and throws them at the mercy nature. Setting up of Hand pumps and construction of tube wells with submersible pump has resolved the problem of drinking water supply.

Towards Sustainable Development MECL has played a crucial role by installing the Solar Power System which has led to cutting down of power consumption from non-renewable sources.

Distribution of Scholarship to students of Navodaya Vidyalaya will aid in availing education facility to the less-privileged and financially backward students who may now fulfill their dream for achieving good education and be a part of shining India in the coming future.

The differently abled persons were given away equipment and accessories that may aid in meeting up their needs. This has contributed in making their lives better and easier.

MECL has a well-defined revised CSR Policy, 2015 in line with Companies Act, 2013, Department of Public Enterprises Guidelines and Government of India Guidelines. This policy has been uploaded on the CSR website for more transparency.

We are grateful, and on behalf of the Second Tier CSR & SD Committee, convey our sincere thanks for the guidance provided to us by the Board Level Committee during 2014-15.

Thank you so much all of you for the hardships you have put in to fulfill the aspirations of the society of which MECL is part & parcel. And we will keep on doing our best of best for MECL & the nation.
