Today, on the occasion of National Organ Donation Day, my family and I pledged to donate our organs.
Our body is a gift of Mother Nature for our lifetime and science has now made it possible to put it
to use even after our time is over. I thank my family, which has been a pillar of strength for me for
supporting me and joining in this decision.
It is a sad reality that thousands of people suffer due to non-availability of vital organs, while
lakhs of bodies are consigned to ashes and dust. The Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji
had also raised this issue in Mann ki Baat in October 2015. I draw inspiration from his words that there
is joy in sacrifice.
I urge everybody to join hands and take the pledge. Let us spread this message through all means at our
disposal and try and encourage at least 51,000 people to participate in this initiative. I am confident
that the employees of my Ministry of Power, Coal, New & Renewable Energy and Mines will volunteer
and contribute to our society.
The procedure to facilitate this is very easy. Simply log on to the Government website
http://notto.nic.in/ and take the Donor Pledge there – either
online or by filling the form and posting it. The link for the online registration is -
